If you follow news from China in our part of the world, you wouldn't think there are currently German companies setting up a new branch in Beijing. And yet that is the case:

Founded in 1991, animonda petcare is a leading company for high-quality pet food for dogs and cats in more than 35 countries, and its goal is not only to offer the best pet food for all dogs and cats, but also to do so as an international leader.
The Chinese market is a promising one: China's pet industry was worth RMB 298.8 billion (EUR 42.7 billion) in 2020 and is expected to reach RMB 348.8 billion (EUR 49.8 billion) in 2021, a year-on-year growth rate of 16.7%. Market research also projects that the industry will reach RMB 445.6 billion (EUR 63.7 billion) by 2023. It owes these impressive numbers to the COVID 19 pandemic, which has accelerated many of the existing trends and is causing explosive growth. Pet owners and those who want to become them are now spending more time at home due to the new hybrid work models and therefore have the opportunity to take care of a pet.
animonda had been planning a presence in China for years, but the pandemic made entry and handling difficult: "When we approached InterGest headquarters in Germany in October 2021, we had already hoped that we would find competent support there. Yet, the founding of animonda Beijing is only a beginning; the Chinese economy - the second largest economy in the world - still holds a lot of potential. With a population of 1.4 billion, China's GDP per capita in 2021 was $12,551, only about six times lower than that of the US. As these figures are closely related to the growth rates of pets and the associated pet industry in China, there should still be a lot to be accomplished here, both for animonda petcare gmbh and for Sam Yuan, Managing Director of InterGest China and his strong local team in the four offices in Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou and Kunshan.
